MitralSeal™
What is MitralSeal™?
MitralSeal™ was designed as the first practical and curative treatment for dogs with severe mitral valve regurgitation, otherwise known as Canine Mitral Valve Disease (CMVD). MitralSeal is an artificial heart valve designed for transcatheter delivery using a minimally-invasive approach into a beating heart.
Is MitralSeal™ available today?
Not yet. MitralSeal™ continues to be developed through a collaborative effort between Colorado State University and Avalon Medical. The device is currently being tested in clinical cases at Colorado State University. After successful clinical trials are complete, hopefully as soon as the end of 2023, the MitralSeal system will become available at select institutions across the United States and eventually overseas. Are there any alternatives to MitralSeal™ available?
One alternative to MitralSeal is the V-Clamp, a repairative device which uses the heart’s existing, native valve. To learn more about V-Clamp, please reach out to us directly at the link below.
